Buyer Beware!!

Though safe guards are put in place to verify the animal being tested when a health screening is completed through permanent identification which is required by OFA, CERF and PennHip, the tattoo or microchip is rarely actually viewed by the testing specialist or radiographer.

Beware of breeders who complete multiple tests in order to find a result favorable to them.  Be especially aware of objective tests which are drastically different the second or third time around.

It is also important that all health testing be completed by a board certified specialist rather than a local general practitioner.  Board certified specialists are excellent tools which should be utilized by responsible breeders in evaluation of the true health of their animals.

Always verify information provided by breeders by doing your own research.  Don't be satisfied by excuses about a poor test or a re-test or a rationalization on why it is okay to breed an animal with less than optimal health.

Fully investigate any breeders option codes associated with a CERF number.  There are multiple, serious, hereditary

eye issues that fall into this category but are still issued a CERF number.  A CERF number alone does not indicate healthy eyes in the German Pinscher.

The German Pinschers on a whole are very healthy breed.  Responsible breeders are doing everything they can to keep it that way!
