German Pinscher Standard

The thighs are strongly muscled and in balance with forequarters.

Allowances should be made for young German Pinschers who have not had the time to muscle up if all other characteristics are typical of true German Pinscher type.

The hocks are well bent and well boned, with good angulation.

The German Pinscher should NOT appear straight between the pelvis and the tarsus and should be severely penalized if this is the appearance.  The femur should come straight down from the pelvis, and intersect with the tibia and fibula at an obtuse angle.   The angle with which the tibia and fibula intersect the metatarsus should be complimentary to the angle created by the femur and the tibia/fibula.

When viewed from the rear, the hocks are parallel to each other.

The tarsus joint should angle neither in nor out, but should be maintained in the same plane with the rest of the rear leg.  The metatarsus and phalanges must maintain the same plane as well.

All text appearing in italics are the interpretation of the Standard by Joelle Kaminski.
